Joel E. Cohen is the Abby Rockefeller Mauzé Professor of Populations and head of the Laboratory of Populations at the Rockefeller University and Columbia University. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Heearned two doctorates in applied mathematics and population sciences from Harvard University. He studies the demography, ecology, and epidemiology of human and non-human populations. He has published more than 410 articles and chapters and14 books, including How Many People Can the Earth Support?andAbsolute Zero Gravity.He has also written for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Scientific American, and Discover.
